Constitutional Court publishes lawsuit to ban three political parties
The Constitutional Court of Georgia has published a constitutional lawsuit from 88 members of Parliament regarding the constitutionality and prohibition of the activities of three political parties: "Unity-National Movement", "Coalition for Change: Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa", and "Strong Georgia-Lelo, For the People, For Freedom".
The constitutional lawsuit consists of several chapters: approaches under the Georgian Constitution and the European Court of Human Rights, unconstitutional political parties, the overthrow and violent change of Georgia's constitutional order, systematic and systemic violation of human rights, violation of Georgia's independence, breach of the country's territorial integrity, events related to the August 2008 war, and events that have unfolded since 2012.
Moreover, as stated in the lawsuit's demands:
"Whereas the activities of the aforementioned political parties aim to overthrow Georgia's constitutional order and change it by force, to violate Georgia's independence and breach its territorial integrity, we request that the activities of the following political parties be declared unconstitutional, that these political parties be banned, and that their registration be revoked:
Citizens' Political Union "Unity-National Movement" (identification number: 200078888; registration date: 10.12.2004; legal address: 45a Kakheti Highway, Tbilisi);
Citizens' Political Union "Coalition for Change, Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa" (identification number: 415030022; registration date: 29.06.2016; legal address: No. 4 Besiki Street, Flat No. 66, Tbilisi); Citizens' Political Union "Strong Georgia-Lelo, For the People, For Freedom!" (identification number: 415030264; registration date: 28.01.2020; legal address: Central Railway Station, Plot 05/107, Tbilisi).
The constitutional lawsuit is accompanied by the conclusion of the Georgian Parliament's Temporary Investigative Commission examining the activities of the regime operating between 2003-2012, the political officials of this regime, and current and former officials united in political parties from 2003 to the present day; registration certificates of the political parties (documents confirming registration); a document confirming payment of the state fee; and an electronic version of the constitutional lawsuit.
