"The struggle for independence of Azerbaijan and Georgia: the causes, consequences and common values of the tragedies of January 20 and April 9"

 

On January 25, 2021, at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia, an online round table "The struggle for independence of Azerbaijan and Georgia: the causes, consequences and common values ​​of the tragedies of January 20 and April 9" was organized. Addressing the participants of the event, which was attended by about 15 Georgian experts, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Faig Guliyev stressed the historical connection between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as similar tragedies that have fallen to the fate of our peoples, spoke in detail about the causes, essence and historical consequences of the Black January events. He stressed the role of the National leader Heydar Aliyev in giving a political and legal assessment to this crime committed against the Azerbaijani people. He said that during the independence of both countries, which was gained at the cost of the blood of martyrs, Azerbaijan and Georgia remained faithful to the good neighborly relations, raised them to the level of strategic partnership and created a new face of the South Caucasus.

 

In their speeches, Georgian experts noted the mutual support of our countries in the past and present, and stressed the importance of developing this strategic partnership, which will serve the interests of both countries and the region as a whole. Noting the fundamental role played by Heydar Aliyev and Eduard Shevardnadze, they stressed the importance of close cooperation between the Heads of State and Government today. A number of Georgian experts congratulated the Azerbaijani people on their glorious victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and said that this historic achievement gave rise to new regional realities. They expressed confidence that our countries will continue to act in a coordinated manner.

 

This round table, which was held in the form of a fruitful exchange of views, became a manifestation of the scientific understanding of the Azerbaijani-Georgian partnership.
