A friendly rugby match was held between the offspring of veterans and young Czech rugby players

On October 3, 2022, an introductory meeting was held between the offspring of incumbent and veteran military personnel and members of the Czech youth rugby team at the State Service of Veteran Affairs.

The Czech rugby players told Georgian children about their country, emphasized the importance of fight for freedom and independence, which is a matter of honor for all nations and which most determines the identity of Georgians. They talked about the importance of rugby in the process of forming a fighting spirit among teenagers. They also underlined resilient nature and fighting spirit of Georgians, which is practically felt everywhere, wherever a Georgian man sets foot on. They expressed hope that their Georgian peers will pay a visit to the Czech Republic in the future.

Irish Wayne Sheridan, the representative of “Rugby Europe”, expressed his special love in words targeted to Georgian children: “I have the honor to greet the offspring of Georgian fighters and to confirm my great love and respect. I especially love Georgians, with their big heart and hospitality, ability to fight and inexorability, which is narrated in the history of their battles against enemy and which can be felt on the field as well.”

Major General Koba Kobaladze, Director of the State Service of Veteran Affairs, thanked Wayne Sheridan, the representative of “Rugby Europe”, for his visit and appreciation of Georgian veterans and once again noted the importance of sports, especially rugby, in the proper upbringing of future generations. “Rugby, with its essence, specificity and rules of the game, with the unrepressed aspiration to win, is very close to the nature of Georgians. Rugby has a special role in the formation of grit and fighting spirit in teenagers. Therefore, your visit and such meetings with our future generation will always be result-oriented and will bring many benefits to our children”, Koba Kobaladze said.

The guests handed symbolic gifts over Georgian teenagers and talked about the prospects of expanding the relationship in the future.

For your attention, Georgia is hosting “Rugby Europe” under-18s championship from October 1-10, 2022. The future generation of European rugby congregated in Tbilisi in connection with the event. Due to the importance of the tournament, a non-sporting event is planned for all teams, which aims to promote rugby and raise the awareness of young athletes regarding various social issues. Within the framework of the event, a match between Georgian and Czech youths took place today at the State Service of Veteran Affairs.
