In the third quarter (Q3) of 2019, the monthly average expenditure during visiting Georgia by its resident visitors (aged 15+) came out to 235.4 million GEL ($82.13 mln/€73.79mln) which is 22.6 per cent more compared to the same period of last year, reports the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
As for the average expenditure per visit it has increased by 8.7 GEL($3.04/€2.51) and came out to 169.4 GEL($59.1/€53.1).
In Q3 of 2019, the monthly average number of resident visitors (aged 15+) increased by 13.9 compared to the previous year and reached 1.1 million; However, they carried out on average 1.4 million visits on the territory of Georgia.
Out of these visits by Georgian people, 710,300 were tourist type (visits which includes a night stay in the visited place) which is 21.8 per cent higher compared to the same period of last year.
About 35 per cent of visitors were residents of Georgian capital of Tbilisi, 15.9 per cent - Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, 10.2 per cent – Adjara region.
Top three purposes of the visits:
- Visiting friends/relatives – 45.4 per cent
- Holiday, leisure, recreation – 16.5 per cent
- Visiting other house – 11.5 per cent
The majority of the visits comes on Tbilisi (average 270,600 visits a month) and Adjara A/R (238,300 visits a month).
Top three visited regions:
- Tbilisi – 19.4 per cent
- Adjara – 17.1 per cent
- Imereti – 15.7 per cent
People aged 31-50 were the most avid domestic travellers (36.3 per cent). 55.6 per cent of visits were made by women.
