Memorial tournament named after Amiran Mamaladze in skiing, hero of Russo-Georgian war, was held in Gomarduli

 

On March 19, 2023, the memorial tournament named after Amiran Mamaladze, who died in 2008 during Russo-Georgian war, was held at the ski base of Gomarduli, Shuakhevi.


The competition was attended by General Major Koba Kobaladze, Director of the State Service of Veteran Affairs, Advisor Vladimer Imnadze, Head of the Regional Management Department, Levan Amiridze, Head of Ajara A/R Division, Shota Kifiani, Mayor of Shuakhevi Municipality, Omar Takidze, Mayor of Khulo Municipality, Vakhtang Beridze, representatives of the City Hall, representatives of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, members of Amiran Mamaladze's family and locals.


Around 50 students of Shuakhevi Sports School competed in the tournament. The winners of the prize places were identified among both boys and girls; They were given cups and certificates of the State Service of Veteran Affairs, and gift parcels from Shota Rustaveli State University.


Ski race has been held in Gomarduli Since 2010 in order to commemorate the heroes who died in 2008 Russo-Georgian war.


Amirani, the son of Gurami, Mamaladze was born on July 21, 1985, in the village of Baratauli, Shuakhevi Municipality. In 2002, he finished Shuakhevi public school, and in 2004, he entered the Faculty of Primary Military Training and Physical Education at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. On May 2, 2008, Amiran Mamaladze joined the 5th Brigade of the 53rd Battalion of the Georgian Army. On August 9, 2008, he was killed during the fight against the Russian occupiers. He went back to take his wounded comrades and commander away from the firing zone and fell heroically on the battlefield.


On September 16, 2008, according to the decree of the President of Georgia No. 610, Amiran Mamaladze was awarded the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasli, 1st degree.
