On August 8, 2022, when Georgia commemorates the 14^th anniversary of August 2008 War, Major General Koba Kobaladze, Director of the State Service of Veteran Affairs, alongside with his deputies, offspring of the fighters who died in the August war, representatives of the Service and veterans laid a wreath at the memorial of heroes and the graves of the fighters buried at Mukhatgverdi brother’s cemetery and paid tribute to the memory of the heroes who fell on the battlefield for the unity of the country.

Koba Kobaladze expressed his condolences to the family members of the soldiers who died in the war and once again expressed his sympathy and respect for them. He thanked the families of the soldiers who sacrificed themselves to Georgia for raising brave children who are loyal to the motherland. He also mentioned that the country which has such heroes who can sacrifice themselves to the motherland without hesitation, put Georgia and its dignity above their own lives, will never be fallen by the enemy and will definitely be free, united and strong:

“Today, when the war between Russia and Ukraine has once again placed us in front of the most complicated challenges that lies a responsibility on us to take more efforts for the maintenance of peace and stability in the region, most importantly in our country, it is especially important to appreciate the merits of these heroes and the unity of the nation. I believe our country cannot withstand these geopolitical fluctuations without our unity. Therefore, we should all put aside our ambitions and unite around a common goal, which is peace and reunification of our homeland”, Koba Kobaladze said.

To honor the memory of the soldiers who died for the territorial integrity of the country in the war 2008, Prime Minister of Georgia, members of the government, representatives of the diplomatic corps were present at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers Cemetery.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Defense, overall, 169 servicemen are considered dead in the 2008 Russia-Georgia war, five of them are considered missing up to this day. In 2008, 228 Georgian civilians and 14 policemen were killed, and 1,747 were wounded as a result of Russian intervention. Almost 150,000 people were forced to leave their homes, 30,000 of them remain in exile.
